“Going Green” is all the rage as people are becoming more environmentally aware. Minimizing your environmental impact is more than just recycling cans, you can transform your entire house into an environmentally “friendlier” home.  People are doing so by including alpine home solar power in their home renovations.

Whether you are starting from scratch by rebuilding an entirely new home or you just want to make some changes, chances are you are going to invest in solar pv panels. Solar energy is the most ideal choice of all of renewable resources when it comes to turning your house in to a greener home. Solar power for homes is cheaper than ever as its efficiency has improved and the government offers incentives for those who use solar energy.

PV solar panels use the sun’s light to make electricity, this is done with a method know as photovoltaic. Once solar radiation is converted into electricity with the use of semiconductors it is then stored in batteries that can used at a later date.  The panels convert the energy into DC energy so in order to use the energy in household appliances it must be converted to AC energy with an inverter.

Though solar pv panels are growing in popularity, there are other, cheaper ways to utilize solar power in your home. Passive solar design takes a little creative maneuvering. By designing a space that makes the most of the sunlight that falls on your home, you can decrease your energy use. If you are rebuilding a home from the ground up you can take advantage of the local climate and design the walls and windows in ways that will utilize the sun. Passive solar design does not involve electrical or mechanical devices to provide energy.

Thermal solar power is a popular method for heating water and swimming pools at homes. Flat plates store solar energy during the day to be released when the temperature drops.  These plates are usually seen on roofs or near swimming pools. Mirrors and lenses can also be used to collect sunlight. This high temperature collector is used to produce electric power. It is considered more efficient than using photovoltaic.

No matter what method you choose to add to your home, your conscience will feel a little better about your carbon footprint and you will probably see a positive impact in your bank account as your energy bills decrease.
